Our Arden, NC Honbu Dojo
Our dojo has a 45 year history! Since 1981, master Karl Wagner has been teaching throughout the Asheville NC area. He carried the banner of Asheville Shuri-ryu Karate-do since humble beginning's of 1976. The honbu dojo today had its kick start in July of 2008, when master Wagner was able to modify his earlier residence as a training center. In October of 2014, groundbreaking began and in December of 2015, a half dozen pair of feet were gracing the beautiful bamboo floor of the finished dojo. Our training deck, totaling 2200 square feet, is a traditional floating hardwood structure. A padded integral section seamlessly blends in. The dojo is fully mirrored and fully equipped with training equipment to include: Kickers, striking bag, heavy bag, kick and punch pads, protective sparring gear, traditional weapons (long and short) makiwara, water fountain, stretch bar, shoe keeper, large screen projector/ sound system and awesome lighting! For our visitors and waiting parents / family, we have a living room setting with comfortable furnishings. Stools line to view window into the training area. Other stools are available for viewing the majestic valley outside a large picture window. The room is floored with elaborate herring-bone paver brick. At our refreshment counter, self service Coffee and tea is free and our large water dispenser provides purified water, hot and cold. In the library / trophy room we have a study table and Asian artifacts display. The restroom is conveniently located here as well. You are invited to visit our dojo anytime with appointment.
